Phonics and Early Reading
Phonics and Early Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills that a child can learn. Children who read regularly or who are read to regularly are more likely to become confident readers and to be successful throughout their time at school and beyond, into adulthood.
Reading for pleasure opens up new worlds for children. It gives them the opportunity to use their imagination to explore new ideas, visit new places and meet new characters. It also improves children’s well-being and empathy. It helps them to understand their own identity, and gives them an insight into the world and the views of others.
We use the Little Wandle programme for our phonics teaching and early reading, and provide additional reading support where necessary to ensure that children make good progress. We encourage reading for pleasure through providing a range of interesting books in classrooms and our library.
The following link will take you to the Little Wandle website where you can find out more about how we teach phonics and early reading, and some top tips for how you can support child at home.
