September 2017 Year 5 welcome and timetable

Welcome back to another school year. I hope you all managed to have a restful summer and enjoy what little sunshine we got! I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know about routines and systems within Year Five.

Our PE day is Wednesday; please could you ensure that your child has their PE kit in school for this day.

As of Wednesday 13th September we will begin our swimming lessons at Blythe Bridge High school. Children will need to be in school for 8:45 every Wednesday with their full swimming kit including a swimming hat. If children need to wear goggles a form needs to be filled in citing why they are needed. These are available from The William Amory school office. I will send a separate letter before we commence swimming with a reminder about times etc.

Within the next week your child will be coming home with a reading book appropriate to their level and interest. It is expected that children read for around 15/ 20 minutes per evening. As the children are becoming older it is not always appropriate for them to read aloud to you therefore I am happy for the children to write in their diaries with a signature from yourselves.  If the children read five times a week they will move a place on reading trail and if they reach place ten by the end of the term they will be rewarded with an ice cream party.

We will be sending maths homework this year however it will fit with what we have been learning in class. The homework that I set is never meant to cause stress or angst to a child. If at any stage they are finding it too hard then please feel free to speak to myself or Mrs Buckley who will adapt our approach.

I hope this has answered any immediate questions you may have, we are holding a parents’ information evening on Wednesday 13th September from 18:30-19:00 where I will cover our curriculum, trips and any other business.

If in the meantime you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to what I know will be a fun packed engaging year!

Many thanks

Mrs Booth
