WWII Remembered

14th February 2017

Year 6 tell the school and parents all about the events of World War II with an assembly. It covered the start of the war, life in the Blitz and memories of Anne Frank before moving into the classroom to sample some cake recipes from the days of rationing.

Well done to all for a brilliant assembly.

Key Stage II Crafty Christmas

1st December 2016

Key Stage II show off their old fashioned skills with our inter-house craft afternoon.

Children got into houses and went to classrooms to take part in this activity. It was wonderful to see the older children working so well with the younger children.  There was a great atmosphere and a few Christmas carols hummed along the way.

Well done to the staff for organising the event and coming up with some great creative ideas.

Fashion Fun at The William A!

9th November 2016

Year 6 set the tone as we start to explore the fashions across the ages.

The children spent the week looking at fashion from a number of angles. Key Stage I looked at themes including, Winter, Autumn and Fireworks. Key Stage II went back in history.

After such a creative week it was clear the only thing left was to strut our stuff along the catwalk. With around 100 parents and grandparents eagerly waiting a glimpse at the styles of the past and the future, the children showed off their designs and artwork.

It was a fantastic afternoon which finished off a fantastic day of workshops with parents and grandparents. In fact, it was a fantastic end to the whole week.

Well done children!

These are not the children you are looking for…

7th November 2016

Year 3 and 4 had a lucky escape thanks to the Jedi like skills of their teachers.

The travelling theatre group visited as part of our work in maths. We believe in concentrating on the Root Skills of our maths syllabus – from place value to addition. We then like to put those skills we’ve learnt into practice with practical activities. So the actors were tasked with helping our children learn new concepts and reinforce those that they have already learned.

Now we’re not saying that this is the best way to teach…But it’s impressive how quickly children can recall number bonds to 10 when there’s a Stormtrooper breathing down their neck!

Inter House Challenge

20th October 2016

Part of our work on Wellbeing is working together in houses to develop teamwork and friendship. With sportsmanship thrown in as well, a whole school inter house sport events seemed the right way to go.

Well done to all those who took part.
