Year 4 Off to Hogwarts!

5th October 2017

As part of their topic this term, Year 4 visited the fantastic Warner Studios to see where the Harry Potter films were set. Reports back say that it was a fantastic day and (almost) no one was turned into  horrible creature.

A fabulous day’s learning.

This year we have arranged an end of term reward trip for the whole school to see the pantomime Cinderella at The Regent Theatre in Hanley.

The trip is on Thursday 15th December and we will be watching the morning matinee so children need to be in school by 9am and will return to school by around 2pm so will need a packed lunch that day. If your child usually has school meals the school kitchen can provide a packed lunch for them as long as it is pre-ordered (please indicate on the reply slip).

If you would like your child to go on the trip the cost is £14.00 each which includes coach travel, admission and an ice-cream. THIS MUST BE PAID FOR ALL CHILDREN BEFORE FRIDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER AND IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Payment for this trip can only be made via ParentPay. The full cost needs to be made before Friday 23rd September. We will not be able to accept extras after this date as numbers will be confirmed.

Yours Sincerely

Mr B A Wilken

Background information

In recent years our class has gone to Standon Bowers and have found it to be a tremendously valuable trip. The children gain a lot from this type of experience and I have no doubt that this will be the case should we go ahead this year. Standon Bowers is a residential centre that has been run by the authority. Staff are very experienced with children from all ages and it has always proved to be one of the best residential centres in terms of quality of delivery.

Should the visit go ahead, it will include some outdoor and adventurous activities and is designed to complement the Year 6 trip that is a regular feature of the school.

We anticipate the cost to be in the region of £120. The school will already provide a subsidy and will not be able to assist further with the costs. This will involve two overnight stays, two activities on the first day; a full set of activities on the second and at least one on the third day.  This is a very comparable price when compared to far shorter activities such as Go Ape or similar and, of course, covers accommodation, food and all the trained staff that run the course.

We recognise that this is still a significant amount of money to find. We would be able to spread the cost over a few monthly payments as we would look to go around the end of January/February.

t-1402-Y5standonfullsizeIf every a picture summed up the 3 days at Standon Bowers, this is the one.

Even though it was blowing a gale; hovering around freezing; falling wet, sticky sleet and grey from morning to evening.

Despite all of these, The children had a fabulous time.

Hats off to them!
