Fashion Fun at The William A!

9th November 2016

Year 6 set the tone as we start to explore the fashions across the ages.

The children spent the week looking at fashion from a number of angles. Key Stage I looked at themes including, Winter, Autumn and Fireworks. Key Stage II went back in history.

After such a creative week it was clear the only thing left was to strut our stuff along the catwalk. With around 100 parents and grandparents eagerly waiting a glimpse at the styles of the past and the future, the children showed off their designs and artwork.

It was a fantastic afternoon which finished off a fantastic day of workshops with parents and grandparents. In fact, it was a fantastic end to the whole week.

Well done children!

These are not the children you are looking for…

Year 3 and 4 had a lucky escape thanks to the Jedi like skills of their teachers.

The travelling theatre group visited as part of our work in maths. We believe in concentrating on the Root Skills of our maths syllabus – from place value to addition. We then like to put those skills we’ve learnt into practice with practical activities. So the actors were tasked with helping our children learn new concepts and reinforce those that they have already learned.

Now we’re not saying that this is the best way to teach…But it’s impressive how quickly children can recall number bonds to 10 when there’s a Stormtrooper breathing down their neck!

Inter House Challenge

20th October 2016

Part of our work on Wellbeing is working together in houses to develop teamwork and friendship. With sportsmanship thrown in as well, a whole school inter house sport events seemed the right way to go.

Well done to all those who took part.

This year we have arranged an end of term reward trip for the whole school to see the pantomime Cinderella at The Regent Theatre in Hanley.

The trip is on Thursday 15th December and we will be watching the morning matinee so children need to be in school by 9am and will return to school by around 2pm so will need a packed lunch that day. If your child usually has school meals the school kitchen can provide a packed lunch for them as long as it is pre-ordered (please indicate on the reply slip).

If you would like your child to go on the trip the cost is £14.00 each which includes coach travel, admission and an ice-cream. THIS MUST BE PAID FOR ALL CHILDREN BEFORE FRIDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER AND IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Payment for this trip can only be made via ParentPay. The full cost needs to be made before Friday 23rd September. We will not be able to accept extras after this date as numbers will be confirmed.

Yours Sincerely

Mr B A Wilken

Year 3 Enjoy the Indian Summer.

13th September 2016

Year 3 took advantage of the warmest day in September since 1911 to get some exercise and develop those skipping skills.

There were challenges, races and games going on all over the field!

Children learn about Spanish Christmas

11th December 2015
Mrs Broadgate has been teaching the children about how Christmas is celebrated in Catelunya. The children are given a log which they make into an animal. They then feed it before the day with treats such as sweets.

The tradition is that on the celebration day, the animal is hit until it smashes and all the treats fall out on the floor. We felt that a bit cruel to our creations so instead we just took out the sweets…and ate them!
