TEDDY BEAR PICNIC – PRIZES GALORE – KSI

We are looking to do a special meal on the 16th May (Thursday) for all the children in KSI. All KSI children who have a school meal on this day will get the chance to get a Golden Ticket prize.

As all children are eligible for school meals, just get your child to book a school dinner on that day to be in with a chance.

Looking Back

We’ve barely been in long enough to be able to report anything!

Year 3 Trip

Well done to our Y3 children who had a fantastic trip to Oak Tree Farm.

Parent Governor Vacancy

Many thanks to Mr Herdman for his support and efforts over the past four years, we appreciate your commitment to the school and its pupils and staff. We are now looking to fill the single vacancy of Parent Governor.

This is a very important role and is a valuable part of running the school. The rather old fashioned term of being a “critical friend” still sums up everything about the role and without governors schools would be worse off. The best governor will understand that the headteacher runs the school but questions and challenges where needed as well as providing support in order to make sure that the school thrives. This person will set aside that they have a child in the school and think about what is best for all the children in the school.

The duties are not especially heavy. We have one meeting a term which usually lasts about an hour. On top of this there are three committee meetings which also meet once a term but governors do not have to be on all three committees. These meetings usually last about an hour as well with some additional reading beforehand.

You do not need any experience in schools as that is rather the point of being a governor – to bring experiences from outside education into the school. We have a fair bit of jargon but we go over these and try to minimise it all in meetings.

So if you have a desire to help the school thrive and do something valuable, a willingness to commit around 2 – 4 hours of your time per term and the ability to attend regularly– please get yourself nominated.

As always, I will always do my best to speak to you about any concerns you may have on the day so please feel free to approach me, either on the playground or book an appointment if you prefer.

Governor Election

10th May 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

A vacancy exists on our school’s governing body. I am writing to inform you of the election arrangements and to invite you to stand for election. Parent governors are appointed for a period of up to four years, irrespective of whether their children remain in the school during that period.

Parents who are willing and eligible to stand as a candidate for election may obtain nomination forms from the school office. The nomination form then needs to be signed by the candidate and two other parents. Parents of all children currently registered at the school are entitled to stand for election or to nominate others. For these purposes, “parent” includes step parent, guardian or other persons having parental responsibility.

A completed nomination form must be returned to school no later than midday on Friday 24th May 2019. It would be helpful if candidates would submit a brief statement about themselves. This will be distributed to all parents to help them make their decision when voting.

As soon as possible following the closing dates for nominations all parents will be sent a ballot paper giving details of each of the candidates. Parents will be asked to indicate their preference as appropriate and return the ballot paper to the school office no later than the date shown. To comply with statutory regulations the ballot will be conducted in secret.

All candidates will be invited to attend the count although it will not be invalidated due to inability to attend.

The result of the ballot will be posted on the school’s notice board immediately following the count.

Yours sincerely

Mr B. Wilken

Headteacher
